The School Escapist

Get out of public school and go online

Have you tried talking to your parents about unschooling or homeschooling, but they refuse to listen to you no matter how many times you beg and plead and tell them that you can't stand high school?

You could just refuse to go to school, but you and your parents would then get into all kinds of legal trouble over 'truancy' issues. And while you could also keep on going but stop paying attention or doing any work, you'd still be in class and that would still be wasting time better spent elsewhere.

But since you already hate the place so much, spending time there isn't really an option. If you could get all that classwork done at home, over the internet, it would be a lot better, right? You can - it's called online high school. Everything is done over the internet, and when you're done, you're free. You can set your own schedules. Whatever works for you.

It's not as good as unschooling or homeschooling, but finishing high school online should be easier to talk to your parents about at least. And you'll save quite a bit of time if you work fast, and you can spend that time on whatever you want - you could teach yourself interesting things. Or go see friends. Anything you want. And when you graduate online, you still get a normal high school diploma to show to colleges or possible employers. They don't need to know that you finished online.

If your parents say something like "but where will you socialize?", tell them "in the real world, you know, where other people do it". School is just a small 'community' - to limit your social interactions to such a small place, where almost everyone in it doesn't even particularly like it there - that's just not a very good picture of the rest of the world. if you learned your social skills in the real world itself, you'd adapt a lot better.

It's possible that once you've been doing classes online for a while that your parents might notice you seem happier and less stressed now. Maybe once they see that it really works, they may trust your judgement more and consider letting you try unschooling or homeschooling as well.
